Why Is Liverpool in the Mess They Are In?

The Moores family have been the custodians of Liverpool Football Club throughout the glory years. However it was David Moore who sold Liverpool for around 200 million to the Americans, Gillett and Hicks.

It has been 5 years since the triumph of Istanbul in Turkey when Steven Gerrard led his team to an unlikely victory when they were 3-0 down at half time. That night it was reported David Moores slept with the trophy in his bed. The best decision at that time was to have got a manager from Spain. Now 5 years later he has written an open letter in the English Papers asking the current owners to leave the club immediately.

When David Moores sold Liverpool he was given undertaking that debt would not be loaded on the club like it was at Manchester United. Unfortunately that is exactly what has happened. Year after year lack of investment in the football club has resulted in players coming in who are of second rate quality, which has culminated in a seventh place finish in this seasons English Premiership.

So is it down to the the seller of the club. Well he sold the club. Surely he should have realised that the two Americans were going to so the same as the Glazer family. But this is only possible with hindsight. He did what was best. At that time he thought he had taken Liverpool as far as he could. But it looks like the club has been taken back 50 years, to a time where Liverpool were struggling in the lower division. Given the situation that has occurred it is good to read the views of the former owner. That has cleared up some of the fans minds so to what was the real motive behind the sale.
